I had a very specific idea in mind when I wrote it, mainly coming from the fact that I got into NCIS long after it had started and then one month I caught up with it by buying some box sets then watching season 1 and 2 almost back to back, and the idea of this story just fermented in my brain. The idea of how Gibbs could have gone from the guy he was in the first episode of season 1 to who he was after his amnesia and coming back from Mexico and beyond.
